    Verizon Wireless was formed by the merger of Bell Atlantic Mobile, Vodafone/Airtouch Cellular, GTE Wireless and PrimeCo. Most of their territory employs CDMA 1xRTT digital technology, in both the cellular and PCS bands. They also own significant analog networks. They are currently deploying 1xEV-DO technology in many areas, which offers data rates averaging around 300-500 kbps.

    Formerly VoiceStream. Known for the first nationwide GSM network, and the first nationwide GPRS service. Like Sprint PCS, they operate only in the PCS band (1900 MHz), and have no analog network. VoiceStream was bought by Germany's Deutsche Telekom AG in June 2001, and re-branded as T-Mobile in the 2nd half of 2002. T-Mobile is Deutsche Telekom's global wireless brand.

    The original Cingular was formed by the merger of BellSouth Wireless and SBC Wireless. The company also recently purchased AT&T Wireless. Cingular's current network uses GSM/GPRS technology, with a legacy TDMA/AMPS network. The company uses both the cellular (800 / 850 MHz) and PCS (1900 MHz) bands. Cingular also offers EDGE high-speed data over most of their network, and is deploying WCDMA (UMTS) technology as their 3G upgrade path, to be followed by HSDPA upgrades in 2006.
