Nokia Corp. has signed a three-year frame agreement with Ukrainian fixed line and broadband operator Ukrtelecom Joint Stock Co. for the supply of 3G core and radio network in connection with extension of Ukrtelecom's services to the mobile domain. Nokia noted that the company would support Ukrtelecom's Utel branch to open the first WCDMA 3G/HSDPA network in Ukraine. The company pointed out that the new network would enable the operator to provide new end-user services, such as high speed data transfer for WAP, Internet access, video calls, and streaming for video and audio. The network would be launched in the Kiev area, from where it can be rolled out to other parts of the country. |

Sprint Nextel Corp. on Thursday said third-quarter profits were cut by more than half due to the spinoff of its local phone division, now known as Embarq. Third-quarter net income fell to $247 million, or 8 cents a share, from $516 million, or 23 cents a share, a year earlier. |
