Ericsson is bringing the first HSPA-enabled 3G/WCDMA commercial network in Latin America to a leading Chilean operator, ENTEL PCS. Ericsson will also expand and modernize ENTEL PCS's existing network with Ericsson's Mobile Softswitch solution. Under the sole-supplier agreement, Ericsson will provide new 2G and 3G/WCDMA core and radio networks, including mobile softswitch and HSPA. Ericsson will have the prime-integrator role and will provide network deployment, systems integration and business consulting services. |

Portland, Oregon, became the latest city to launch a municipal wireless network, starting a free, ad-supported service featuring localized content and services from Microsoft Corp.'s MSN. The network, being built by MetroFi Inc., went live in a few central neighborhoods on Tuesday and is intended eventually to provide Internet access in 95 percent of the city's indoor and outdoor spaces. |

NTT DoCoMo and Mitsubishi Electric are planning to replace around 1.3 million batteries manufactured by Sanyo Electric because they may overheat and catch fire, the companies said today. The batteries were manufactured before June 2006 and are used in NTT DoCoMo's D902i handset. Some may have also been used in two other Mitsubishi Electric models, the D902iS and D903iS, the companies said. The batteries carry the model number D06. |

Nokia and France Telecom have signed a contract which Nokia will integrate a customized remote content service and related platforms into the operator's network. Nokia will also host the commercial service, thus enabling France Telecom to roll out the solution more quickly. The service will enable France Telecom's Orange mobile customers to remotely access their personal photos, videos and music stored on their PC at home, as well as to watch, view and listen to them from anywhere on their Orange mobile device. The service marks the first convergent application implemented by Nokia to France Telecom. |
