Nokia and the music composer Brian Eno have jointly announced a charity auction to benefit two of Brian's favourite organisations - the Keiskamma Aids Treatment program and The World Land Trust. Starting on January 8th 2007 and ending on Febuary 12th 2007, a total of ten Nokia 8800 Sirocco Brian Eno Signature Edition mobile phones, individually numbered and engraved with Brian Eno's signature, will be auctioned online with all proceeds going directly to both charities. A certificate of authenticity will also accompany each auctioned phone. |

Citigroup, MasterCard Worldwide, Cingular Wireless and Nokia today announced a consumer technology trial of Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled mobile phones with MasterCard PayPass(TM) contactless payment capability in New York City. The goal of this trial is to evaluate the speed and convenience that "tap and go" payments made through mobile phones can provide to Citi credit cards and Cingular customers in the New York City area. The trial is expected to run three to six months. |

The planned merger to create the new company Nokia Siemens Networks is expected to close in the first quarter 2007. In light of the current investigations of Siemens, the scope of which includes the carrier-related business to be transferred to the new company, Nokia and Siemens intend to adjust their agreements in order to have Siemens conduct an appropriate compliance review prior to closing of the transaction. This adjustment is an addition to the previously agreed closing conditions. Nokia will participate actively in the review. |

According to the head of Samsung Electronics's North American wireless unit, the U.S. wireless industry should grow 7% to 10% next year. That compares with 7% to 8% growth for this year, said Dale Sohn, president of Samsung Telecommunications America. It's one of the reasons why Samsung is expanding its product lineup to 60 devices in 2007. "I don't see growth slowing in the U.S. market," he told Dow Jones Newswires Thursday during the Samsung Mobile Summit in New York. |
